The 2017 Hyundai Sonata PHEV earned the Automotive Science Group’s (ASG) 2017 BEST 5 ALL-AROUND PERFORMANCE honor, and is distinguished among an elite group of five vehicles in the Full-Size class. In areas of environmental, social and economic performance, the three fundamentals of ASGʼs annual data-driven Automotive Performance Index™ (API) Study, the Sonata PHEV performed among the top five vehicles in a competitive class comprised of 106 Full-Size cars for model year 2017. BEST 5 honored models are the best overall performers in class and are among ASG's top selections for 2017. While the Sonata PHEV has been identified in the market as a top environmental performer with its plug-in hybrid capabilities, ASG now acknowledges the Sonata PHEV as a best all-around value selection, with environmental, social and economic considerations.

When assessing and comparing all 2017 vehicle offerings in head to head comparison, irrespective of class division, the 2017 Hyundai Sonata PHEV stood out as one of 20 vehicles to earn a position on ASG’s 2017 ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE INDEX (Cars). The Index is comprised of the 20 best environmental performing vehicles available to consumers in North America.

ASG’s annual study applies statistical methods to demonstrate each vehicle rating in relative comparison. The vehicle that performs highest in any performance area, in a given class, obtains a rating score of 100 in that specific performance area (Economic, Social, Environmental and All-Around Performance). Each vehicle is then compared relative to the top-performing vehicle in its class, with a rating score reflecting the statistical difference in performance outcomes. For example, a rating of 95 translates to a 5% performance deficit as compared to the top-performing vehicle in class.
